We're heading out of Port Bolster tomorrow morning too...how far are people walking out there? What's the parking situation like around there? We usually fish out of Beaverton so not sure how it works down there?

Sorry dude I missed this.
We headed out today (me, bro in law and "crappieperchhunter" from another board). We walked about 2km to around 25' of water. There was 7-8" of good ice and lots of quads and sleds about.
The fishing was pretty slow, only a couple worth keeping. But it was great to be back on the ice.

Hey Dutch,
Saw you leaving just as we rolled back into Casey’s end of the day, we started good around 6:40am 25 fow, live minnows taking most of the fish, some in slab grabbers. Slowed down mid morning till about 230pm. Moved 3-4 times, different depths, 27, 29 and 30 fow. Things picked up and were on fire from 230 till 500 when we called it a day, towards end jumbos were very aggressive and took bare lindy jigs, no bait required. All in all decent day kept 30 or so between two of us, not terrible for the season starter.

Wow you guys sure did better than us! I was pretty jealous of all the sleds on the walk back in too. Maybe next year I can get one. Not sure why it always feels twice as far coming back in lol

Up until two years ago we walked and walked and walker pulling the setup you see in the pics, power auger heater by buckets and all. Some days 2-3 Miles one direction...it was a lot of work. Sled or quad makes it so much easier to get to a few different spots each trip.
It was a decent day, not our best or our worst so we’ll take it. You’ll smash them next time out! Good luck maybe catch ya next time. If Kemp is good for opener we may try our luck there this coming week.

Heading to the Virgina Beach / Port Bolster area next month, usually fish cooks bay. Was wondering if there are any known bad ice areas to stay away from. We travel with snowmobiles. Thanks for any safety info.

Can’t provide any info as of yet, I’ve only been out the one time, so my knowledge of the ice is limited as of this point. If I come across any I’ll try and post location on here to assist.

We walked 1-2km out of Port Bolster on Saturday and never found less than 9" of ice and at the most was 13". We moved 5-6 times too, fishing was very slow.
