Happy New Years LSO community!

Up and at it early. Chatted with a young blood in the parking lot. He'd been out on Friday and was kind enough to share that fishing shallow had yielded nothing but dinks for majority of the day, but a brief late afternoon foray into deeper waters had produced the prize.

So I set out for 18fow. Didn't quite make it. ( Every first outing makes me feel older and older)
Drilled a couple holes. First three dunks were 10 inchers. Seemed like a good omen. I didn't have any live bait, by design. They were smashing a tube jig, some of the weird jig and bizarre plastics combos I throw together, and the freedom spoon yielded a couple of big ones. Caught a grand total of three self-hooked dinks , and a half dozen smaller than 9". The rest were 10"+. Threw back 3 or four for everyone 1 kept: easily could have limited out. Nothing as big as 14", although almost, and just tons between 10" and 12".
Missed the hook set on a bigger one, and had the biggest of the day come unbuttoned at the hole.

My impression was that I triggered an aggression bite vs. feeding.

Some of those combos you make are so ugly I can totally understand the fish hitting them just to be able to stop looking at them

Glad you had a good day out there to start the season. Were they mostly hitting in a specific part of the water column or all over for you? I have found that a freedom minnow half way up the water column can have fish come in really aggressively from way off to the side to just smoke it, definitely fun to watch.

Hope you had a great New Years and we can get out there together soon.

Happy New Years!

Very nice catch there. We were out yesterday and fished 30 fow and the bite was slow. Something about high pressure days. We could see the perch down near the bottom and they were just not eating. Had to entice the bite. Would rip a jig up and down a few feet of the bottom and then they would move in but were hesitant to bite. Lost a nice one right at the hole. Hook hit the edge and popped out of its mouth :l

We will be out again in the next couple weeks and hopefully have the same luck as you.

Cheers,

GRW

Very nice chunka-chunks there!

Love the idea of fish tacos as someone mentioned. Perhaps a burrito boyz!
