I know this can be a touchy subject with some but if you plan on fishing smaller lakes in southern Ontario please make sure that they are indeed public. I am the foreman at a private club an last year we started to see afew locals that felt that our private waters(landlocked) an privately stocked. Should be their private honey hole. There is a safety concern an that’s way the property is posted even right where you continuously jump the gate an walk in. Really hoping it isn’t guys from this board but if it is I still have all the tip ups an ice scoop that you left there last season when you heard us coming on the side by side.

You know that it would be much more fun to have a drone with a speaker on it?!

Watching the trespassers faces when you hover 10 feet above them announcing the authorities are on route... now that would be priceless.

If they start to run... you can simply follow them with the drone while blasting Benny Hill music.

Merry HoHo ya filthy trespassers!

Just hover the drone in, make your needed video evidence and then make an announcement; "You are trespassing on private property, vacate the area immediately" and then just wait by the gate you know they have to jump over to get back to their vehicle!

I know how you feel. My dad's stock pond was fished out one year. It was at the back of 100 acres and a bunch of guys on snowmobiles took out over 300+ trout he raised. Also broke into the supply trailer and took stuff including my very first tackle box.

Caught two guys tonight fishing the private pond I spoke of. Claimed he didn’t know they weren’t allowed, I questioned him what he thought the No Tresspassing signs meant an he answered that he tought they were for us to cover our ourselves for liability if something happen. Might have had some choice words for him.

He amitted to being there the other day an fishing. An having come for years, also was kind enough to tell me there was several others that fish there as well. I told him to spread the word that nobody is welcome an if caught they will be charged. Told him if he could beat the cops out of there I’d let them go this time an not pass there plates to the cops.

Asked if he was the guys that left the rods just around the corner on Boxing Day as I’ve got his rods but claimed he wasn’t there an they weren’t his. So now it looks as if there are more for me to catch.

I fish a bunch of small ponds around me for bass as I can go for 30-60 mins on my way home from work. These ponds were 100% public ponds but with new subdivisions coming up they get landlocked in these gated communities and become private... I understand your frustrations entirely however it also drives me nuts when I lose a pond just because people want their $2M homes in a secluded area.

I have tried this method after I got fed up with losing ponds over and over (i.e. having 7ft fences around the communities now), and was just curious what your take is on it;

If I were to knock on your front door and say " Hi I'm Tyler, I was just wondering if I could fish the pond behind your house. I am strictly catch and release I just fish for fun, will keep it clean, blah blah."

What would your response be?

I have had mixed responses so I am just curious.

In my opinion I just want more people to enjoy the sport of fishing, its hard when you try to take new anglers out and you have to drive 60-90 mins to fish a main lake - and we all know new anglers may get bored after an hour on the water.

I am also extremely biased since I dont have my own private pond

This made me laugh! GENIUS!!! I would pay to see that, and even to pilot the drone myself! god that would be funny!

If you knocked on the door you’d still be told no simply because the property an pond in question is a membership and employee only access.

As for the subdivision ponds the old farmers likely didn’t give to shits as long as the property was respected but once the houses come they look at everything including what not there’s as theirs. I this case this pond is totally land locked with a private aquaculture license attached for private stocking.

Just wondering what this has to do with Lake Simcoe.

Likely because it’s in the general area. An that I was putting out a public warning that I was on to the people fishing private waters. An the time was near when I was going to catch a them fair warning I say. Our problems stem from simcoe not being safe to fish, once the trout grounds are safe we don’t see any problems till after March 15 or the ice on simcoe isn’t safe then they fall back
