There is a confirmed report I got from a Lake Simcoe time line web site.
"1956 - 42" lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) was captured near Jackson's Point."
This is literally the only mention I can find that ever mentions a confirmed report of a sturgeon in lake Simcoe. I wonder if it came through the Trent system and entered the lake through a lock? Either that or they are even rarer than a Musky in Simcoe. Lol

A musky could look like a sturgeon depending how far away you were. There are the odd musky roaming the waters. They have a similar profile and can be similar in size.
This was from the MNR a few years ago:
QUOTE
MNR - thru its Lake Simcoe Fisheries Assessment Unit located in Sibbald's Point Provincial Park, continues to monitor the fish community of Lake Simcoe. Unfortunately however, we have not had any reports of sturgeon either thru our work there, or as incidental catches from anglers since that 1956 fish. Lake Sturgeon are therefore currently considered as extirpated from Lake Simcoe... and like you mention below do have a year round closed season.

Was only a few feet under the ice. I know what I saw, although I totally understand those sceptical of it, reverse the position and I would be too. Simcoe is a big lake, if there was only a few left, it’s not unthinkable for them to never be caught.

Sturgeons are long-lived, late maturing fishes. Their average lifespan is 50 to 60 years, and their first spawn does not occur until they are around 15 to 20 years old.
Might be the odd one still kicking around on its last legs
