Well, tis the season for perch fishing!

Headed out for the first ice adventure of the year... it was great!

On the ice around 7:30am, punched a couple of holes, dropped some small tubes tipped with minnows and had a jumbo-fest under my feet. They came fast and furious for about and hour and a half, then started to space out a bit. The dinks took over, but I had a good bucket already. Decided I had enough cherry picking trying to catch the jumbos, so packed it up and trekked back to the truck.

Some good keepers, and my dinner never looked so good!

Excellent first trip!

Same scenario with me, on the ice at 7:30 and left at noon with 20 Jumbo's 1 was the biggest so far at 14 inches, the rest from 9-12"

I’m thinking that “The early bird gets the worm” deal is alive and well with the Simcoe perch population.

Thinking of going out again tomorrow, but will be on the ice for 7:00 if I do.

Get up early to catch the jumbos!

I would be interested in knowing where you launched from. I launched from Beaverton yesterday and got skunked.

Well...
I worked the afternoon shift on Cooks Bay, today.
Didn't bring my portable and was punished by Mother Nature severely.
It was -12C, and the windchill made it worse.
Regreted my lazyness about digging out the shed from the locker.
But the temptation to be there was bigger than common sense.
At the beginning I got many dinks 3-6 inches. At about 4 pm the "bigger dinks" started to find my lure.
Then the jumbos gave me hope, but it was too late, it got too cold.
Brrrr. Need rum!!
Just kidding. I had some hot chocolate, but it was not enough to last me for another hour. So, I quit!!
Fished at 15-18 FOW. About 600 meters (or so) off KonTiki Marina.
Plenty of ppl at the beginning, .
Driffting snow and wind were a real factor against staying on open ice.
Have better luck in New Year everybody.
Stay safe and warm.
