Hi all I bought a helix 5 portable, in my confusion I thought it came with an ice transducer. Apparently the entire GTA has gone insane for these units and it's near impossible to find an ice transducer. My question here is a two parter. Question 1) can I still use the transducer the unit came with for ice fishing? Question 2) how do I go about this? Planning on using it on my trip to lake nippising next week. T.i.a and as always tight lines

Not sure where in the GTA you are but there's a few Canadian Tire stores that have Ice transducers in the Scarborough area. Just make sure its the XL 9 20. According to Humminbird site they are compatible.

If worse comes to worse use the one that came with it....mount it on a cross....aluminum or wood and drill a second hole to leave it in.....you will get readings.....but the ice transducer is easier to use....no cross needed.

just rig it up so it's straight like buddy did as long as your marking your lure good your good to go. zip ties I like heavy solder wire. its flexible. bit of tinkering but works Just fine.

i used my humminbird with the normal transducer for a couple seasons and no matter what every time I was fidgeting with the transducer to see the lure and fish properly.

Got the ice transducer this season and its perfect!! no fiddling with the thing trying to get a reading instead of fishing. IMO definitely worth the 100$ spent.

I had to pick it up in Orillia's Canadian tire on my way back into town, but several had them in stock.

Gluck
