Pic
ohhhh buddy, I would have had a heart attach if I was in that hut.
He probably set it there to fish the crack.
You can see his holes on the other side of the crack, crack opened up right under him. He's gonna need a new floater suit after that one.
Cracks usually don't bother me but that one would have shook me up! I wonder how long it took to open that wide? Instantly or gradually?
Pic is from about 5 mins after it opened, threw everything in the sled and went to find somewhere to cross it. It lasted About 15 seconds, I was about 15 ft away from it, another crack that didn't open up went right through my hole. Looked over saw the ice pushing up and water pouring out. I knew I was on solid ice but I had no idea what was happening. That's what I get for being the furthest out.
That middle section sank a bit when we walked on it

I was out early this morning around 8 with my ATV went back to the truck for about 10 min and when I can back there was pressure cracks everywhere. I got set up and was having second thoughts and then what do you know..... 5 min later one of the guys from bearpoint hut came over and told me they were taking all there machines off the ice and offered to go back in with me. I disconnected and got my quad off the ice. Fished until 4 and not many people but pressure cracks everywhere it was definitely a maze trying to get back in. But I got to say nice guys at BP huts I had nothing to do with there but rentals and they came over still and warned me. Solid group of guys and if your reading this just want to say thanks I dunno how I would have made it back in with the atv.

As the saying goes no ice is safe ice. Sitting on 6" of solid black and it cracked right through the hut. Almost caught a brown trouser trout. Needless to say put an early end to our opener. Taking revenge on Bear Point Jan 24

Wow, scary stuff and great pics of what's going on. Hopefully lots of anglers see this and make a educated decision to go out there or not. It's hard to wait, but you won't catch me out there for a while. The snow is only going to make things even more dangerous. Hopefully everyone made it home safely. Hats off to the operators and others who helped out the less fortunate few that almost got stranded out

it's scary for sure...had to leave a bunch of stuff out on a Haliburton lake a few years back when a giant crack came between us and shore in 90' of water...fortunately I was outside the hut for a mother nature break and could see the thing snaking toward us..opened up about 2 feet wide

That's some crazy crack! I would've had to use the water from the open crack to wipe my a## if that was me out there lol. Play it safe, no ice is safe ice. It's good to know that the operators were out there warning people!

lets just say, It was a long ride back. lol cracks where I was seemed to close up though. the one behind my hut is now 3' up, where it was flat in the morning, but between me and shore seemed to have tightened up...(for now) Gonna run out this afternoon to jack up the hut after all that snow...
