Hit the ice at Roches this morning. This was a test run for my new 3 man Frabill HQ 200 hub. I wanted to see if I can handle it by myself on a windy day like today. I also wanted to see the conditions on Roches, my favorite ice perch spot.

Dropped the ducer into the hole at around 9:30 and started to watch perch schools pass by. First hour was nothing but dinks, then good size perch started to show up. By 12:30 schools disappeared from the face of the fishfinder. From 12:30 to 2:30 was hit and miss, and mostly miss. Shortly after 2:30 i called the day off and returned back to the shore with 15 good size perch in tow.

All in all I am happy that i was able to handle the hub by myself on a windy day like today, and the perch caught was the icing on the cake. Fish hit a Simcoe Bug tipped with a small piece of salted minnow, the bug by itself didn't get the much deserved attention today.

There was about a foot of ice out at 30' of water (about 1/3 mile offshore), not too much snow so the walk was relatively easy. At one time i've also seen some snowmobilers wizz by my tent.

Hi nice report, brand new to ice fishing and have a pop up I haven't used yet. What did you use to drive in your anchors? I heard pre drilling a hole and spinning them in works best, but haven't tried yet. Been too cold for my liking.....

I find it hard to set up my hub on windy days, when I am by myself.
Thank you for the report Icecy!
