Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone here sharpens their own ice auger blades? I use an 8'' Swede-Bore auger and i noticed the blades are getting a little dull. Should i attempt to sharpen it? If not, who sells replacement blades? Does anyone know someone in the Peterborough area that sharpens augers?

Thanks!

I've sharpened mine. I took them off the auger and used fine sand paper. The dark grey kind if that matters and cutting oil. I layed the sand paper flat on a work bench and only worked the one edge with small circles on the oiled sandpaper. It really seemed to help. If you want to replace them and have trouble finding blades you could try B.J. Tackle in Bewdley, he has a bigger selection than most.

Try using a polishing wheel with compound you will remove burs without changing angles
Or check online

I sharpen mine easily and I’m no expert. Just use a fine stone, go slow and don’t touch the bottom of the blade. What’s the worst can happen, it doesn’t work and u buy new blades? The best is it does work and u save $30-$40.

There's a place in courtice that sharpens anger blades. Kitchen-ology.

I sharpen my blades all the time. I use a speedy sharp from Canadian Tire ($10). New blades are around $40, and this way I get a couple more years out of it. I use my auger a fair bit, so this was my best choice.
