Sooooo I was out on Simcoe for the first time in 12 years.

HOLY CRAP am I out of shape.

I went out of Lefroy and really struggled pulling my old Frabrile portable hut. It just seamed to push the snow.... I thought I was going to have a heart attack on the way back.

So on to my question.

What portable hut do you recommend that is easy to transport when walking?

PS. Fishing was ok.... lots of dinks though. I kept 10 good eaters. I was in 23 FOW for most of the day. The new Helix 5 I picked up (highly recommended here) worked great but the battery didnt last very long so I will have to do some research on setting the machine up to help with that.

I would suggest building yourself a smitty sled to put your frabill sled and gear on. Makes pulling gear ALOT easier.

I can run my Helix5 for 12-14 hours on 7ah battery on brightness setting 5 fishing in a heated portable/hut.

you might have a bad battery or there is something running in the background (GPS maybe) draining your battery?

OMG you guys ROCK. I just googled Smitty Sled. Guess I know what I am doing tomorrow

I will play around with the Helix 5 today and find how to change the brightness and see if the GPS was on.

Thanks everyone

Had the same issue this year on Xmas day. I'm using a borrowed one man and almost died dragging it out in the same spot. Smitty all the way! I built this one to fit my 56" sled on top or my 1 man flip over. With the sled i have a cover so all the stuff stays dry and clean.

build a smitty, i pulled my one man on Jan 2nd without my smitty and could taste death in my mouth trying to pulling the sled back in deep snow. The smitty will keep the front from acting as a plow.

I also run the helix 7 with a 7ah battery and can get well over 10hrs if i keep the brightness to around 5 setting, as back up i have a Milwaukee M18 usb adapter and can power the unit this way if i ever run out of juice.

I like your sled!
How did you connect the pipe to the skis?

Now that is a nice sled. I am going to rebuild mine and get rid of the wood top. I actually already use pvc on the legs already.

That’s an awesome sled but I really love the Ontario shack!
