Last minute planning and realized at 9pm last night that I have no license to fish. Went online and 5 minutes later I am good for another 3 years! Was not that cold this morning and took the time to get out on the ice. Didn't use any navionic or gps and simply picked a spot away from others. That did not last long. People came so close you could hear the fart from the guy down wind. Marked a few bottom fish but no hits. Finally a few good chase and top sided one. Great feeling none the less. But was disappointed the bottom hugers didn't want to play and the many chase only had one to show.

The walk back in really made me realize I am getting older and out of shape. I thought I was having a heart attack and could not catch my breath for a good 5 minutes. Almost wanted to pass out. I think I just need to get out more often to build up the stamina.

Beautiful fish that's for sure. Now I have to get the first one (be it a laker or whitefish) this season...

Get out there James! Kayaking time is long away. I am excited to get out into white shole this year. Hoping in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks, and in fact I have been out off JB 3 times since opener (Jan 1) looking mainly for whitefish, but unfortunately (don't ask me how come or why) I skunked all 3 times. hahaha. Hence I am still looking for my first one this season...

Nice catch...I hear you about the getting "old and out of shape" thing...I've finally come to the conclusion that I've finally entered my "Carlsberg" years...atv or sled towing ice shelter, gas auger, 20 lbs. propane heater...I use to walk out, pulling my sled behind me with a hand auger and sat on a 5 gallon bucket, outside with no shelter...

Nice one, beautiful color ! Would you mind sharing where you caught it and how was the ice after this warm weather?

No asking for specific locations, please familiarize yourself with the board rules.

I caught it on Lake Simcoe.... ice was 9.5 inches.
To answer your next question: where on Simcoe?

Answer is: over there by the three cottages with trees around.

. People came so close you could hear the fart from the guy down wind. Marked a few bottom fish but no hits.

Lucky you weren't downwind!!! Count your blessings!!1

While your laying on the ice dying from a heart attack, guys will walk over you to get at the holes you drilled just because you caught one fish
