I've seen an episode of fish tv where they nailed them. But I believe the best spot for them is picton and good ice is hard to come by because they have an ice breaker ship come thru a couple times a week for other ships. Not sure if it happens all season. Don't quote me just what I've heard

that episode was actually in the upper gap, an are which does not freeze all that often. I haven't ever heard of lakers being caught in Picton or the harbour there at all. And I do believe the breaker will be doing the run all winter long

Update from Picton Terminal site:
Tugboat Sheri Lynn S will be breaking ice from Picton Bay to Amherst Island all winter 2018
Picton, Ontario - January 5, 2018

Picton Terminals’ new tugboat Sheri Lynn S will be breaking ice from Picton Bay to Amherst Island throughout the winter. Picton Terminals wants local sled and ice fishers to enjoy winter fun but be aware of Safe Ice Conditions and reminds people that all ice on or near shipping routes and icebreaking operations, should be considered unsafe. Ship tracks may not freeze over immediately and newly-fallen snow may obscure ship tracks. Please use caution. Picton Terminals will be working throughout winter 2018 to deliver equipment and supplies to the new Amherst Island ferry dock project and the Toronto harbour project. Additionally, the Sheri Lynn S will break ice as required for the MTO ferries at Glenora and Amherst Island. The Sheri Lynn S crew will not be ice breaking daily but will work throughout the winter to keep the shipping routes navigable.
