What did the CO's say when you called them about the poaching of 20 whites on the ice?

I call the MNRF to report this stuff all the time. probably 30 times in the last 3 years alone. only once did they show up, but it was not a result of my call because they were already in there by the time I hung up.

How old is your Grand Daughter. Under age of 18 no license required. Over 18 she can fish this weekend and has to abide by the conservation limits.

exactly. and if under 18, no license required, and yet the possession limit is the same as a Sports license holder.

In Quebec this year no license is required for any resident to ice fish from Dec 1 to March 15th. Just have to follow the rules for possession limits.

No, CONSERVATION limit, taken from the website for free periods.

Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary.

I am sorry but we are talking about TWO (2) different things altogether.

1. You are talking about those who normally need a license but don't during family day long weekend (license free days) must follow CONSERVATION license possession limit. And you are absolutely correct here.

2. But I am talking about those Canadian residents who are under 18 (or 65 or older, or disabled) (the so-called DEEMED fishing license holder) have the same possession limit as a SPORTS license holder

Hence a Canadian resident under the age of 18 whether during the Ontario Family Day long weekend or at any time always have the SPORTS license possession limit.

See my below attached pics extracted from 2018 Ontario MNR Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary:

Anyone under the age 18 can fish without a license all year so why do people need a special day to get young people involved? They dont but it brings up the conversation and promotes fishing as a whole and people over 18 who are curious will check it out and maybe like it maybe then 1or 2 or 10% of those people will get a license and buy some equipment.. generally the idea is to take the cost convern out of the picture and make so all of us licensed anglers can invite new people and we should do our best to be welcoming and educating the people we speak to or bring with us about the regulations. I dont think moaning and complaining solves anything it only makes you angry and bitter and causes you to have a bad day. I say this with respect as someone who for the most part of his life has been the complainer. How about we try and be positive and if you see someone catching 20 whities or over limit maybe report them to the MNR. You wouldnt call the radio station when your tv stops working to get them to fix it.. i would hope not anyay

To solve the problem of people buying a license and not know the regs. Just hand out a regs book to first time license buyers. Last thing I want to do it pay for another bs licensing course or test, many of which are simply money grabs, the boating course is a prime example. Most the courses are just a rush job, and all the answers are spoon fed come test time.imo
