Lake Nipissing is nearly free of ice after a windy Easter weekend, with only a few piles on rocks Monday at Sunset Point and cube-size pieces floating near the beach.

There appears to be some ice in the eastern bays of the Manitous, as well as some isolated areas near the French River.

The Nugget hopes to hear from an area pilot to declare the ice-off date for 2012.

GONE official day was April 11th. Almost 3 weeks earlier then normal. It's nice looking out at open water again. Spring walleye feeding frenzy will be earlier as well, just like 2010.
