I learned a lot from this book, both theses guys are well known Michigan charter captains, they talk about the “ group dynamic” the whole spread and how it affects things, one line working off another, I can’t say enough about how important I feel it is in a good day of Great Lakes fishing, definitely worth the $ if you’re just starting out....surprised to hear the speeds you guys troll, my preference is on the higher side, 2.8-3, listen to what your cables and your rods are telling you....good luck
Yes, the "spread" can be critical quite often and I agee with listening to your lines as you mentioned. But looking at fish hawk top and bottom speeds is far more usefull imho the currents can be wicked out there on certain days and you may only hook up with fish in 1 direction which you need to figure out
there is also what I call a sacrifice lure/presentation which catches least amount of fish on ant given day, but it is the one that brings or keeps them in the gear in order to smack other lines after 25 years out there I know this works most of the time

I agree 100% shank, I have a dodger that gets washed that seems to bring them in, but very rarely gets bit. I don’t have down temp, but feel I need it, as for currents, that’s what I meant by watching the rods. So many times it’s been flat calm, no change of speed, but rods double over from current, gps the spot and figure 8 it, spot all to yourself and fish on every pass till they disperse or shut off, seen it many times

exactly.........you will see me out there sometimes in a pack, but mostly I am far away from the crowds. usually do far better
my figure 8s are nasty as of late more like a rectangle, ha ha ha
the beauty of the fishawk is both speed and temp, so easy to figure out what direction will /should produce.
now ya got me ansy to get my boat in for the season, but that won't happen for another 2-3 weeks......tons of paperwork to get approved first as always
