Hello, Everyone.

Driving out From PEI to see my kids and grandkids in Ontario this summer. We have rented a cottage on the south west corner of Weller’s Bay the 3rd week in July. I will have my 17’ bass boat and bass gear with me. I have fished the Bay of Quinte before but never this body of water or the main body of Lake Ontario.

My 10 year old grandson and I would like to hit some bass, pike or muski. If we are better to target Walleye we are happy to try those as well but have no experience fishing for them.

Any advice you could give us would be much appreciated.

Pictured below is grandson Anthony with a smallie he landed on the Ottawa river two summers ago.

Thank you in advance.

Good morning. Bass, Pike and Walleye all inhabit Weller's Bay, not sure about Muskie though. Bass and Pike are easy to find and relatively plentiful once you can locate them. That said, I would focus on the areas around bald and fox islands, and the inlet directly across from there as well. Hit the lilly pads and weed edges and you are likely to find both. For walleye, they may be a little harder to locate in numbers (could always scoot across to the BoQ through the murray canal- also have seen folks pulling in big pike from the shore) but locate drop offs and the 'valleys'. If you have the navionics map on your phone, should be relatively easy. If memory serves, check the area just south west of the Empty Nest B&B. A short jaunt across to Presqu'ile point, and the back bay there, you should also be able to locate some good fish (but I have never fished there before). Good luck out there.

Thank you Fishsniffer.

We have seen big Gar Pike in Mississippi Lake and the Ottawa river but have never caught one. How do you target them and with what king of tackle? I came across a vide on YouTube where you make a lure out a piece of rope for Gar. Would be nice to add one to the species list for the Grandson and I.

will have to agree with Fishsniffer. Many gar pike in there. Make sure you use a steel leader or some good line. Good luck.
