Friday morning caught a nice smallie for the smoker....then took my 7 year old niece out to get her first big fish....she hooked into a nice hammer handle northern and the smile said it all......Saturday we had our bass/pike fish derby and the bay was so rough.....the bite was soft with the odd soft tap without any commitment...the fish won that day handing me my first official skunk of the summer.....that after pounding them for 5 weekends. Today Sunday morning I came back with a vengeance.....3 smallies.....5 Northern Pike and 1 fat Gar Pike, bringing the total pike up to 97 and the bass to 16......all of today's were released except two of the Pike.....pics of the weekend below.

So great to see the kids enjoy. The 'funnest'(as they say) outing I had last summer was one aft with 2 granddaughters. We must have caught about $10 worth of bait!!

They are hard to bring in and are usually lost in the netting process.....for two reasons....the sword going into the net and too much weight still outside of the net and because they have such a hard mouth.......this guy was about 7 lbs and ran at least 6 times and for a surprising distance.
