This one's for all you regulars....
Generally speaking, what week does the ice fishing hut season start? I know there is seasonal variablility but most years when would you say the hut operators have their huts out? Dec? Jan?

Everything looks good for winter so far. The lake temperature is cold for this time of year. If you like you can view a chart of Lake Nipissing water temperatures here https://portal.aoos.org/#metadata/48060/station The nice thing about this chart is you can look back several years to make a comparison. The bad thing is this buoy gets pulled out every year so it doesn't give a complete history, plus it reads in Fahrenheit...whatever that means.

we started pulling huts on December 28th last year on about 16" of variable ice.
I've also seen the lake open on December 30th.
They are predicting a very cold winter this year, so fingers crossed she ices over in early December to make for good pulling conditions after Christmas. You all will know via this forum when the lake is good to go and how Nip is looking for the Jan. 1 Opener.
