I am so sick and tired of watching our native Indians poaching are walleye in fish sanctuaries. This is just a bloody travesty to the system. Our government declares a fish sanctuary yet allows this to happen. Stop this soon Ottawa or we will not have a future walleye fishery. I watched in horror as I witnessed several Indians spear walleye in the five to ten pound range at the Port Severn dam with a couple of conservation officers watching on. This has been going on for years now while I watch the walleye population almost completely disappear in the Severn Sound area.
When the season opens whatever walleye that are left are the ones that the Indian poachers can't spear cause their to small for them to get at, these are the ones left for you and me the 16-21 inch fish slot size lol!!! What a not funny joke, we put these fish back to mature and get speared by the Indians. When the heck does this stop, spear your fish on your reserves not fish sancturarys. Open your eyes Ottawa MNR make some changes to this system before the Indians completely destroy the walleye population everywhere.

Sad thing is Minnkota this poaching is allowed by our government. The natives have been given the ok to do this by the idiots in Ottawa. Give them more money and more reserves but leave our sport fisheries alone.

I have witnessed them dragging fish down streets in the Quinte area as well. They are allowed to do this for personal use by the reserve. BULL. I also have watched them net lakes up by North Bay to the point of decimating the fish population. This has to stop.

Very sad to hear the natives are doing this. Is there anything we can do to stop this decimation?

Our government gives them rights because 100 years or more ago they claim they were taken advantage of. You would not want to hear what happens and at what cost every year. It would make you cry.

Well 100 years ago there were no dams and the natives could only fish with sticks. But we built the dams and no one should be allowed to fish below them as stated in the regulations. Fishing dams is not the same as natural rivers 100 years ago, they trap the fish in the area. Disgusting that they are allowed to do this.

This happens all over Ontario and Canada..Been going on since I can remember

I would sooner see us pay and ship the fish to each reserve than to see this continual rape of the resources.

We pay for it anyways.

On another post about Nipissing walleye, the stakeholders are concerned about small walleye and sitting down to figure out why.

DUH!

Sorry chief that doesn't cut it. I fished in Severn sound for over 30 years and have seen a drasti decline over the years in walleye populations. This is definitely attributed to the raping harvest on the spawning beds at port Severn which did not exist prior to charter of rights agreement that our moronic government put together that allows natives to rip apart spawning fish in sanctuarys. As for your theory of 75 percent of walleyes spawning on shouls, yes a small percentage do so but the majority will enter fast running water. Stop making excuses and open your eyes even walleye populations on quinte have been dropping off over the years. Let me tell you this one day are government will stop you from this blatant poaching and should they not you'll be left with a bunch of white suckers to spear on your annual spring poach!!!

Are walleye population out here is not hurting over the indains!!!The decline in numbers was due to the zebra musslels. Do more resarch on where walleye spawn!!! Another thing is does anybody think over harvest could be a problem!!!

I can't believe there is actually people supporting this behaviour. Sanctuary are there for a reason to protect the fishery. No morals or common sense.
