Saw a truck on Callander Bay yesterday afternoon. Asked someone with a shack close to main dock how thick ice was and he said 8 to 9 inches. Crazy...

With the exception of Friday (Dec. 28th), the next 7 days looks pretty good temperature wise for ice making. 8" - 9" is fairly safe for an ATV or snowmobile and a portable hut. Keep up with the ice reports !!

Safe loads for clear solid ice are indicated below:

Thickness of Ice Load or Activity
in
< 1 3/4 STAY OFF
1 3/4 One person cross county skiing
2 One person on foot or skates
4 Snowmobile or smaller ATV, groups of people walking in a single line
7 A small car
8 A 2 1/2 tons truck
9 A 3 1/2 tons truck
10 A 7 - 8 tons truck

UNDER 4" - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - 7" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck

There’s are really great! Been following them everyday since November anxiously awaiting nip opener. Southern Ontarian here so get the heeby jeebies when I start hearing about ice!
