Well, our boat fishing season came to an abrupt hault today. After about 5-6" of snow on Friday, we brushed off the boat and braved the wind but only managed a few fish. After checking the future forecast Sunday morning, this coming week has some very cold nights (-11) and not much relief with warmer temperatures so we decided to pull the boat.

Good thing we were prepared as the bay we need to enter for the launch had frozen overnight. We fished for about an hour and still only caught a couple fish. At least the last one was a good one! On the way to the launch our boat had to become an ice breaker to get through 1" thick ice. It was only -7 overnight so I hate to think what -11 will do!

Friday snow...

On Saturday we were treated to a sighting of two deer. They hide very well in the trees, can you see them both?

You guys toughed it out as long as you could.

Yep, time to put the boat away.. That ice breaking pic is unreal.. I can imagine the noise it was making..

Nice perch to end the season.

I sort of see 2 or 3 possible deer shapes in the trees..

Breaking ice will usually bounce you around. Nice driving.

Okay Longshank, that must be some strong coffee and maybe a little extra flavouring added.

Here they are:

One is right in the centre of the photo about 10 feet from the edge of the forest. You can see her nose just to the right of the thicker tree in the middle. The other is to the left of the first, her head is just left of the "V" in the tree.

Glenn was driving and did a good job of keeping it straight and I was at the front keeping some weight up there. We really couldn't talk while breaking ice because of the noise. At least not much damage to the hull, just a couple scuffs thank goodness!

Always a sad day when you have to put the boat away, looks like the jumbo and the ice breaking added some excitement to the day.

few years back went duck hunting, had to break about 1" of ice all the way to an open spot about mile away, was -12C. Didn't think we were going to make it back. We had to find the exact spot we used to get there. Was frozen again by the same amount. If we got of the track we got stuck. -7 when we pulled boat out, and didn't get a duck. So you did much better than we did.
