Have ponds around Hamilton iced over? Want to fish a pond close to Hamilton this Fri-Sat -as a backup plan for river steelehead fishing. Wondering if open water/shore fishing is still possible on small ponds after the cold spell. Not planning to get on ice at this point...

I’m local here, been watching everything within 30minutes of us. Haven’t found anything that’s even close to being safe. Cootes paradise opposite side of Lake Ontario past the carp barrier was all frozen over days ago but only has a skim of ice. Looked today and it’s all open water from the rain and warm temps. Will need to take a minimum 4 hour drive north before I myself would feel comfortable on anything going out solo.

Just saw some posts about chemong, and rice lake. I can’t speak for them haven’t been or know anyone who’s been myself.
Hope this helps save you sometime

Gotta ask yourself though, is a fish really worth it? Pond or not, it's still early. Despite the fact that it looked like some may have been fishing on Pigeon lake, it's not worth the risk. These up and down temps the ice can change in a flash. All the rain we have been getting will compound the problem making it worse. Just invest in a good fishing game to tie you over.

I've got the itch to get out to, but I'm not gambling my life for a little bit of fishing at this point in time.

Stay safe!

Thanks Scooby, Not going on ice yet. Wanted a confirmation that it has melted so I can do some open water fishing.
Tight lines!

Totally agree with ya swiftdeer, I’m organizing gear and shopping to pass the time. Lol
And anytime Mongol, I post a lot more during hardwater. Summer is a busy time for me and I don’t get out as much as I’d like.
