Had a business meeting downtown on Friday so took my spinning gear with me, just in case.
Finished the business early and hit one of Toronto harbors for some pike fishing.
In a couple of hours I got a hit on a 4" jerkbait and got a nice 3 pounder, which was quickly released.
I was happy to get a fish and was about to leave but decided to try a few more spots. And on one of the casts in about 4 FOW I got a hit and my reel started screaming. I was sure I got a brownie but to my great surprise it was a very nice Northern. It was big, roughly around 40"!
I was able to get it on shore, quickly unhooked it and let it go. Needless to say, my commute back home uptown was much more pleasant.

Well done sir! I fished the islands the other day and didn't get a sniff. That's a great way to end a work day!
Yeah, it can be hit and miss, that's for sure. Got my Toronto harbor permit renewed last year for 2018 but did not go even a single time on the boat this year, so enjoyed the quick shore fishing after the long commute.

Well done . I moved to Toronto in 2008 and not once has anyone mentioned fishing downtown at the harbour. I had no clue there's big pike down there. Glad you got to work and play

The fish is there, maybe not in numbers but they are definitely catchable But the big mamas are often moody and don’t eat as often as the smaller fish. I caught similar one in March just did not report it on the forum.
