^Really? Leaving wood behind floating around in the spring causing hazards for boaters. It is worst that the wood is left soaking wet for a few months and then floating a foot below the surface that makes it almost impossible for boaters to see and avoid come spring time.



if you know how to use ice anchors properly with bungee cords or ratchet straps, you don't need to leave anything behind and your hut is just as secured in the wind.

Last year I was out at bear point trying to setup my clam......good thing I leave it attached to the ATV......wind jacknived the whole thing and what a time I had trying to erect it.......I can see me aiming the ATV head on into the wind and anchoring with a hole......rope and 2x4 in a hole this year running off the back of the sled in the downwind area.....thx for the idea.

It not just the wood left behind they probably have a couple of feet of rope tied to them

Holy moly, gear down gentleman, I said worst case scenario. And these aren’t logs, their 2x2’s that’s are 6.5” long. I’ve never left rope, or garbage behind. Have I lost an anchor, yes. But it’s not because I was too lazy to try to get it out, even after cutting the rope an chiseling away with my ice scoop for a half hour lol.
So I’m sorry if you boaters found that one, but i highly doubt that will do anything to a hull let alone a lower unit.

You are absolutely correct, Sir. For several years I have been using this DIGGER ANCHOR ICE ANGEL (Ice Angel). I did not use any wood block.

When there is strong and brutal wind, and/or when it warms up on ice (ice becomes softer and softer as your fishin' day progresses), this thing will secure your hut, hands down. Try your ice anchor screws that come with your hut? Not even close:-)

@scoobydube, not calling you specifically a d-bag or calling anyone out. Just letting everyone know that it's not the best way of anchoring a hut. At -20C, those holes outside will freeze closed fast. The way James uses his anchors, he doesn't drill all the way for water to fill the hole and freeze.

It's not the haul that boaters are worried about. its the prop that gets dinged or any rope that gets wrapped in it potentially standing a boater out in the lake having to be rescued.

Thank you for showing that.....I am actually thinking of drilling a hole not all the way through and then putting the ice anchor in the bottom of the hole at a 45 degrees angle that would be better than without the hole......better support.

Those ice angels are not cheap......I see my next project lining up......will make my own version.

Yes they are and that can be so annoying.....it will scare people off of posting......its like having a vulture scanning you overhead......

haha it was just a question there fellas, I was just trying to drum up some conversation on the issue, I didn’t accuse anyone of anything. Sorry I asked. I’ve been on here a while now and have never caused any trouble, really nice way of describing me.

It was not directed at any specific person.....I have found throughout the threads lately have had a negativity about them.....constructive criticism or different opinion is great.....but some posts go beyond that unfortunately.
