Mora swede bore with drill.

We were out on Lake G yesterday and the skating was less of an issue. For starters I didn't have the speed set on 1 so I changed that. But the ice was also rougher with snow and sometimes slush. We drilled quite a few holes in our relentless pursuit of splake. On the good side, wedidn't need to wash any yucky fish smell off our hands----and it was a great day to be out!

I have a finn bore 8" on mine and the blades are angled so i have no skating issues at all.

i have Milwaukee M18 fuel 2804 model 750 torque with K-drill 8 inch and 2 5 amps batteries and this setup is amazing i can drill around 50 holes with 2 batteries no problem so just my 2 cent

this is exactly the reason i switched to the Kdrill for this year as i like to drill overlapping holes and i found i tended to walkover and grab my brothers Kdrill when we went out together, i had mu mora come a little too close to my feet for my liking also with shaver spiral auger style they tend to grab once you plunge though the water, i see why the kdrill uses the throw style fins, these dont grab as easy on the sides of the hole. IMO the kdrill is the far superior design for a drill and well worth the extra bucks, took me three years of using both styles to finally commit to a kdrill.

With your Black and Decker 18V drill? How much torque does this drill have (in in-lbs)? If it is less than 500 inch-lbs, then forget it. Many people use say a Milwaukee M18 drill with up to 725 in-lbs (drill Model 2604-20) or even up to 1,200 in-lbs torque (drill Model 2704-20 or 2804-20) to power their auger, for example. Or a drill from say DeWalt with similar torque.... I seriously doubt your Black and Decker one would be enough.

You were definitely right, my drill was no where near strong enough, but my arms made quick work of the 5-7 inches of ice on Sturgeon.

I use the swede bore on my clam plate and the only time I had any major skating issues was when I was using old blades. Brand new blades will go straight down through 2' of ice no problem. Drilling side by side holes is definitely a challenge though.

I have a shaver style auger on a clam plate as well and I've never encountered these type of issues. I am pretty meticulous with the blades on augers though. I have a 14 year old nils master hand auger that's still on the original cutting head because I won't let anyone else touch it.

That was one thing that really steered me away from the kdrill. Marketing it as an 8” when it’s not... kinda weird.

I was really tempted to go gas 10”, and settled for the 8 so I could go the Milwaukee route.

I still wonder how I’d do trying to fit a 30lb laker through an 8”... do I think I’ll catch something that size? No. Lol but one can always dream!

^ yes, the Kdrill is not a true 8". But it sure can drill connecting holes together with ease to make what ever size hole you want. I would buy one myself if it wasn't for that hefty price, I just can't justify the cost vs reward for me at the moment considering I already have an existing auger that still works.

Whats a half inch its the mileage that counts.

my brother has 4 years with the same kdrill blades and it still cuts like a champ but he can get them sharpened for just the cost of shipping so another reason i switched, last time i had to replace my shaver blades it was around 45$ so for me the longer shaft, less prone to walk and grab in the hole justified the switch. I learned in life you pay now or you pay later but in my experience pay now often is much more enjoyable and i rarely think man this thing works well but i regret paying the extra $$; more often its why the hell did i not pay the extra $$ instead of dealing with this crap.

I’d also expect the lightweight plastic bit market is going to gain some new players in the next year or two... and with that I would think prices will come down a bit (no pun intended). So many people are converting to drill power, it would only make sense.

The kdrill is beyond nice, just that sticker makes me cry... it’s so expensive when you look at the materials used. Not knocking kdrill or their buyers by any means, I just can’t handle the cost. Perhaps it’s just because I have already dropped a mitt full this year already.

Maybe I’ll reconsider the kdrill next season after the wounds have healed from this years spend. Lol

Any way you slice it (pun intended), there’s a whole lot of chomping at the bit (pun intended again) for ice!
