Hit Couch today from Tudhope park. Started at around 8 am and counted around 10-13 portables in the area. It appears that I was the only one hutless.

Could not locate perch until almost 11 am and only had 2 perch by then but continued moving around and eventually found a decent spot with the occasional action. Caught at least 50-60 perch, a gobie, a few tiny (like 2-3”) sunnies , lost a pike at the hole and took home a couple dozen keepers with 3 biggest ones being 10-11”.

All in all it was great to be out on the ice and scratch the itch so I am not so desperate for Simcoe anymore.

Merry Christmas and stay safe everyone.

Looks like a great day out on the ice. I am itching to try it on Wednesday. How far did you go out from shore? It's my first time trying ice fishing, don't want to risk life if I don't see anyone out there.

I was trying various spots anywhere between 0.5-1 km from shore. There were a few people further than that and also a few snowmobiles zoomed by. Where I fished the ice was not less than 6-7" but I cannot tell you that it's like that everywhere.

Nice job! How did you like the new reel? What presentations did the damage?
Thanks SS77

Thanks, Jay.

The reel was Ok (Fishing 13, plastic one for $59) but the fishing was for the most part pretty shallow so we will see on Simcoe how it's performing.

I mixed up various presentations throughout the day and at some point small jigs with scented plastics worked well but other times good old slab grabber tipped with scented red rubber egg was doing the trick. Hard to tell - fish mood changed during the day and the dinks were mixed up with the bigger fish.

Many grubs while cleaning ? the last few seasons have been not bad for grubs for me but so far the bigger ones had them in the gills so I haven't been keeping anything yet.

I don't care about the grubs- the perch was gifted to my mother-in-law.
We will find out soon.

Good stuff... I've been looking for some of those scented rubber eggs in anise that glow. Seen them online just haven't seen them in any stores yet. I'm not a big online shopper as my wife could track how much I actually spend on my addiction!😁

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and maybe we'll meet up on the ice later this season
