Downsizing a adventure to say the least, Almost ready to walk

Arnie, looking good. I'd take the head unit off and put it in the case for travel. I had my sled roll over on me last year when I was crossing some really deep ruts. Don't want to damage an expensive piece if electronics. I carry my phone with navionics for travel and it works awesome. Can also send your coordinates to the boss with it as well for safety incase I don't show up at the end of the day.

I will be lowering the centre of gravity a bit to hopefully prevent that.....I walk pretty slow.....lol.....tried the phone with navionics and hated it....so will chance it......when I use the ATV I won't be pulling the smitty and the Helix is bolted right to the box that is on my front rack.....spoiled I guess but love to fish.....

Hey Dee....if I don't return home on that day.....I just hope my wife does not sell all my stuff for what she thinks I paid for it.....cause you guys will be getting one H.... of a deal.....lol.

i was going to say check out the aluminum trailer hitch carriers from Princess auto especially when on sale but you already thought of that, i'm going to modify my snowmobile to use one of these so when i decide to go flip less i can carry all my stuff just on the sled, ordered a couple of rhino grips for the auger, something you may want to consider too, just widen the support beams and add a couple of grips for 30$ and you can leave that auger in one piece, less worries it will wake up and tear all your stuff to bits and pieces in the sled..

Aluminum smitty will be for just walking....but have a set of rhinos on the box on my ATV already for the auger and a sonar mount too and have a small wheeled trailer if I need it for gear to run and gun......but pretty well everything fits on the ATV for that and then I also pull the Clam flip on any chosen day if needed and that holds gear.

I've been a "walker" for years.

Before I took up ice fishing seriously, I did a lot of XC skiing.

Once I stated pulling toboggans and Smittys on the ice, I continued to use my
XC ski poles.

Great for balance if a foot slips and lets you lean into the tow rope for more leverage.

Proper pole fit is important. When you are standing up straight, stand the pole beside you and the top of the handle should be just below your armpit.

Wow thats excellent SD....wish I could do that.....unfortunately I came out of a tree in 2005 and had a heart attack 2 years ago so I am working around those two handicaps and trying to fit my stuff as tight and light as I can to be able to walk in order to extend my season.

That ATV for me was a real blessing to be able to fish a distance from shore.

I picked this up at Home depot in buffalo on sale...after exchange it was 75 canadian vs 180+ in store canada. It holds 90% of my gear everything other than auger and hut. (Holds fish cam, small chair, sonar big buddy 6 rods tackle boxes, extra propane tips up etc etc etc) Its big enough that i can actually fit in it with lid closed (6' 210 lbs tight fit) its a huskey mobile job box, with wheels for days where theres no snow and i want to go hutless, just bungie the auger on top and away i go throw it on a smitty with hut and auger bungie corded on top and all set up for snow

Longfish what general area are you fishing in? Me and my 8-year-old son ( addicted to fishing and very patient and quiet for his age) are just taking up ice fishing this year. We have our own gear etc already but lack experience, I could come to pull your wagon in exchange for some fishing stories and some knowledge. We live in Collingwood but are planning to go an hour or two out from the area a few times this season to try some new and different lakes and lots of trips to Simcoe etc.

I appreciate the offer but I am no guide.....not on ice anyway......now on water it is a different story.....I fish all over but right now will prolly go to Tudhope as there is ice there.....later on when ice develops I will be back on the ATV.....I really think you would do better to tag with someone else....but thank you.

I use a large plastic tote bin and it works great. Lightweight and having a lid is awesome if it snows, keeps everything more dry.

Don't have to be a guide, always nice to make new friends. If you get out and find its a rough go and have to wait a while longer before you can get the ATV on the ice I'd be more then happy to be a mule for a day!
