Fluorocarbon leader

Bought a 35 inch medium heavy rod for lakesrs and whities this year and I decided to spool it with 10 pound braided ice line what pound test should my fluorocarbon lead be and how long long of a lead do you Guys use

I use 10lb, but you should be good anywhere between 8-15lb depending on preference

X2 I agree with Dave’s answer. I usually use my wing span for leader length 6-7ft

Also agree with this, 10lb is usually good. Also use a uni-knot versus the barrel swivel for a more natural presentation

I use 6 lb to 8 pound for the most part. for trout and Whitefish most of the time I'll use a mono leader but have used fluorocarbon before. With the braided line the mono acts as a bit of a shock absorber. If I'm on Lake Simcoe or any other clear Lake for that matter and I'm fishing trout with their really good eyes I like to have super long leaders.
I prefer light or medium light gear for Whitefish

I like 6-10 pound floro with a 6 - 10 feet leader, double uni knot connection. Makd sure your drag isn't locked down as your line will have no give.

I use 9lb floro tippet material as it is thinner than typical floro leaders but still has the strength. I use a FG knot to my braid. I have about 7’-8’ of leader.
I don’t think deep water needs so much of a light presentation but the shallow shoals might.

In deep water 95’ plus when I am after lakers only with big presentations I use 20lb floro and about a 10’ lead from my 40lb braid. I use this as I am setting a very large single hook with a big bait and need the power to drive it home hard.
