Wellington County OPP say it happened around 3:30 p.m. as two people in their 60s fell into the icy waters.

Very sad.....My condolences to family and friends.....this is just down the road from me......I heard that someone went through the ice......thought they were ok.....terrible to hear different......this is a area that nobody should fish on.....I believe it is posted not too.......I also read somewhere one time that neighbours watch and report people fishing there. Be smart and stay safe everyone.

I see this couple were ice boating.

Why do you think this is an area nobody should fish on?

That's terribly inaccurate!!

I fish guelph lake every single winter and have never ever had a problem and caught some beauty fish too.

The issue was they were out on very thin ice. After it warmed up too. With 2 people on that ice boat.........

That's the recipe for disaster.

Definitely my condolences to the family but don't blame the lake that's like saying guns kill people...

From what I read in a post here last year that the conservation posts it to no fishing.....I do not mind being corrected if I am wrong. Here is the thread JStubbs.

Here is what CTV had to say......I guess if you want to fish there and risk the fine .....go for it.

And in The Guelph Mercury.

In case you don't read the above links they charge you with trespassing.
