Quinte Ice, Will the bay be frozen by the 25th?

Hello All,

My group is booked in with Sunset Cabins the weekend of January 25th. My question is to anyone familiar with area, do you think there is a good chance That the bay will be frozen by then or should I start looking into a back up plan?

they are fishing off Big Island 15-18 fow closer to the west side of the island on 4". 14 day forecast for area suggests ice making weather.

I was not too far from there on Friday and Saturday on about 5" - I wouldn't sweat it. Still need to steer clear of current areas though.

How did you make out Chuck?

I heard back from sunset cabins last night. As of yesterday they only had “floating slush” no ice yet. So here’s hoping the cold snap over the next few days locks it up. I haven’t fished quintet for a few years and I was really looking forward to this trip.

Not great Oogie8, I had a promising start with about a 6-7lb'r in the first hour - around noon on Friday then got one more about 17" in the afternoon. Had a couple buddies show up for Saturday and only got one between the three of us - for a 12 hour sit lol.

That's a bit surprising but they are a little closer to the narrows. There is safe ice (for walking) now within a 10 minute drive of Sunset. No reason to think conditions wouldn't improve by the time your trip starts.

Can be a grind at quinte, at least you got fish chuck, always hoping for those days when you really get on them, but that only happens if you’re trying, its still early...

Yep. Out for another crack this weekend - if I can get to my spot I think they're in trouble .

It was a good weekend for making ice at Quinte. The area I was on was open water last weekend and had 6" of black ice by Sunday.
