Went out with a group of 12 guys in 3 ice bungalows for Friday/Saturday night.
Fishing was slow but managed to get about 10 Walleye (1 Keeper), a couple perch one Jumbo, and a couple big whitefish/herring and this massive pike caught on the tiniest jighead and minnow.

FatRap you said your team returned from Bear Creek this past Sunday and fishing was slow? How slow was it? Did you sleep in a Bungalow or using day huts? What did you catch? - my team are heading up Friday till a Sunday.

We were in the bungalows. Fishing overall was slower this year than last year but this is not uncommon on Nipissing, I have been doing this trip for 26 years now and we have always had good years/not so good years. No rhyme or reason that we could ever figure out why this happens, the one somewhat consistence seems to be if there is a big drop in temps before or while you are there the fishing does seem to slow down. Last weekend the temps stayed in the minus 30+ range all weekend.
We had one guy in our bungalow who caught fish consistently throughout the weekend and the rest of us only managed a few each and our other bungalow seemed the same. We caught perch - we kept 20 decent size ones for a fish fry - a few walleye that were all under the slot size where as last year we caught well over a hundred with only two keepers and there seemed to be more cisco around this year than in the previous few years. Last year we caught five ling on the first night and kept three nice size ones, this year only one caught and it was only 18". No pike action this year for us but others posted some nice 30+ inchers on here they caught this year, like topwateraction who started this post.
All I can say is if the fishing is slow don't let up, if you don't catch quantity fish there is always the chance of landing a nice quality fish, a big walleye or pike - one caught at over 20lbs this year - or maybe even a sturgeon coming up out of your hole would really make your weekend. You gotta think the fishing is going to turn on at some point this winter, maybe it will be this weekend
Good luck to you and your team, let us know how you make out.
