I had misplaced my blade guard on my older mora auger and since I just replaced the blades with some new blades I thought I would make a cheap and easy blade cover to protect my new blades and more importantly my fingers and other gear.
I used some standard 1 1/2 " ABS plastic plumbing pipe, cut it a little longer than the blade then cut a slot lengthwise. I then drilled 2 holes on the outside edge to attach a couple of pull string loops to help take the guards off without fear of cutting your hands for removal. I also made a couple of notches on the inside edge to fit tighter on the auger shaft. The inner tube band is optional to secure the guards on the blades.
You just have to slip the slot into the bottom of the auger and cover the blade with the pipe.
