Belwood Lake

I was always told walleye are natural to the Grand River and have a separate DNA different from any stocked fish..

These are a good read if anyone is interested about the walleye in the grand , conestoga and belwood, im sure that grand river walleye are their own specific breed, but originated from erie

Thanks for the link oogie8. The Walleye in the whole grand river watershed have always fascinated me as to all of the origins. The middle section from the Paris dam to the Snyder flats section north of Kitchener I have fished all my life. I have never caught one by accident in all that time. I have caught them when I specifically targeted them. There are not tons of them but they are there, and I have seen them from 6" to 31" so they are successfully keeping them selves going. The 31 incher was a real mutant I measured and weighed (I of course didn't catch that one:)) it was just shy of of 10lbs (9lb 13 oz.) and released. You would think Belwood Lake would be capable of producing some nice size fish.Thanks again.

Your welcome, Speculation has it that the population boom down through Kitchener happened after a highwater event a few years ago that saw water at a record height in Bellwood spilling over the dam , flushing eyes into the lower river, that combined with the resident population from conestoga has established a very strong and new opportunity, and i agree fully, you dont catch many targeting bass, you have to fish specifically for them, which can be very difficult with the amount of weedgrowth that section has

My cousin went for browns a couple years ago and was throwing a little spinner tipped with worm and limited out on walleyes from the grand. Good looking healthy fish.

Do they shut the gates at dark on belwood! heading out Friday night after work and wants fish until 10 or midnight since that will b my only chance this weekend.i know I've been kicked out below the dam after dark in the summer.

I think it closes at dark, best to check website or call if you dont have private access

Definitely must have been a skinny pike, a 48" pike should be close to thirty pounds.. Did you release the beast??

TO answer the question about Puslinch - yes there's "public" access - some people still park by the restaurant I noticed.

I parked on the road.

The road leading into the restaurant you can park on the opposite side - room for only a handful or cars though I've seen at least 5 parked there though.
