Been out a couple times, gotta work for them, finally some cold temps, if you dont have a spud bar, or have one and dont know how to use it, look online.... but there are rewards

I was thinking the same thing on that ice. It looks like about 2"! Please tell me you were fishing in only about three or four feet of water or very close to a pier or dock or a big steel wall. Oh yeah nice rainbow -beauty colours.

Your wife will be using your life insurance policy as a book mark if she see's that picture

That hole looks much worse than it really is, that’s after the second day of being out on the same hole with the heater going so it has deteriorated, close to 3”, 5’ fow

Nice catch through the ice! If you can find decent ice at the river mouth you should be able to hook some steels.

Nice bow! Few years back I was ice fishing for them and had the best day of my life on the amount of fish I hooked up. Well in the high teens but was only able to land 1. They run like crazy in that shallow water. Well done!

Yes, they are hard fighters and very tentative biters, usually only have one shot at them when they come in...have to be very quiet as well ive noticed over the years

Your'e right about them being spooky in shallow water under the ice , we learned , a bright orange survivial suit seems to send a reflection and it definitely spooks the bow , now we wear camo with a inflatable pfd . They are super spooky , but if you move very little and slow the fight they put up is awesome ,there is a lot to be learned watching steelies down a hole which has helped me in soft water presentations ..

Good luck

Dave

First time I tried it we broke two rods in the first hour lol. Make sure your drag is set to "steelhead" if you're going to give it a go. Jaw jackers or similar work good for steelies as they don't usually hang around chewing on a set line. In a regular rod holder they're usually gone by the time you get to it.
