I think the $50 -$70 range is fair. It’s a short season, further shortened by periodic thawing, wind, etc. Most huts only get used on the weekends. The majority of the operators run good businesses, employ people and pay taxes. They are a safe option for a good number of anglers who don’t have the time, space or money to gear up and/or find places to fish. Hut operators make it possible for families and potential new anglers to experience the sport. But.... they have to make a profit ( ...and I doubt any of them are getting rich now). Like many others in this group I have my own gear and I don’t usually use hut operator services .....but I don’t begrudge them charging me 50+ when I do.

I don't get to fish nearly as much as I like. I have nice gear including thermal flip up, Big Buddy, sonar, camera ect. I have however been wanting to rent a hut to fish lake trout or whitefish for a while now just for a change of pace. Been scoping out the web sites and reading reviews. I treat my fishing excursions like a vacation, I don't get out that often and when I do I do I don't skimp on the things that make it a good expirence. I will gladly pay a higher price for better accomodations and service. I am in a service business and keep my prices and service standards higher. You may get less customers but you end up providing better service with the same bottom line and a resulting better reputation. My personal cut off for a hut rental would be in the range of $100 a day per person for a nice shack on some bite with top notch service.

Yeah if you want full service, do nothing, just show up and fish in a nice warm permanent hut you might have to pay for it unless you and some friends get together and share a hut you put out yourselves. It's a lot of work doing the permanent hut thing and you can't just leave it there and let it thaw and refreeze further into the ice every day without going out and jacking it up regularly. That's why you see myself and thousands of others just doing the portable hut thing. Pick your spot on navionics the day before, move if you want, pack everything up and no worries about anything left out there. Those guys bust thier a## and probably risk thier safety sometimes just to run thier rental huts so if you don't like the price do it yourself!

If I go a lone I don’t mind paying as hauling gear and burning a tank of propane and minnows.... it is worth the ride out and be comfortable. I usually like going weekdays as operators not full and allow 1 person to get out into lt/wf hut. There are times my buddy and I would book 2 huts so we not competing for the same fish we mark... we just put each other in speaker phone for 6 hours while fishing.

Yeah everytime I was talking on the phone one day I'd hook a fish! Maybe the distraction made me jig just right.

Like some have said all huts are not equal including the service and ride out and back... My wife and I went out one day and tried a different operator. It was windy and cold, although the hut had a heater we both froze our arses off due to the hut letting the cold in... We have tried almost all the hut operators and found one to provide everything we expect.... Personally I think 60 is fair, ride out and back, hut, gas, minnows it all adds up for the operator... Now we have peace of mind when we book with our favorite operator that we get the best service and experience everytime...

Going out with a buddy and our two sons tomorrow. We will pay $70 for the adults and 40 for the children which I think is great. It is definitely a lot of work to be a hut operator and probably very thankless at times so I think this is more than fair. I wouldn’t do it often often because it is a lot of money and I do have my own gear but want a good experience for my son so that he enjoys it and wants to go back. Better than sitting inside watching the idiot box and playing Fortnite. I can’t wait. I hope they out fish us. We are targeting whities and lakers so I’m looking forward to seeing their rod bent like horse shoes lol.

I have rented as well, when I have driven an hour and a half and faced gail like winds. I have rented all over Simcoe in the past 5 years and not by choice. I have my own gear but winds make it impossible sometimes. I also understand it's allot of work being an Operator, BUT you choose to do it. That being said, if your not moving your huts or they don't produce decent numbers then 40 is all you really deserve. I tip well when I get put on fish, but that doesn't happen often. This year has been tough all over the lake, and certain area's are not producing like last year. I've been catching allot more males this year as well. In the end it's a business that's very hard to keep everyone happy......

$40 would be my max for renting, and only in very specific circumstances, like if I'm learning how to fish for a certain species. I found hut rentals would cost me WAY more than just buying the equipment I needed to go out on my own. May be a lot to put out at once but will save me tonnes of dough in the long run. AND I can fish in my choice of locations, and not have to worry about drunken idiots dropping all kinds of stuff under the permanent huts. I think I've been out 10 times this year alone. At a minimum of $80 bucks a time to rent, my expensive gear is paying for itself.

Never rented a hut so far, prefer walking out and have some physical exercise in the process (and boy do i get it!....lol). The consensus seem to be a $40-50 per person is a reasonable rate for WF/Lakers, for perch i wouldn't go with an operator even though I've been having a terrible time locating good size perch lately
