Made it to bear point before the sun woke up, was on the ice and setup shallow. 40ft, and setup a tipdown in one hole.
And jigging rod in the other. Surprisingly the graph was showing marks right off the bat, except they were all perch. Confirmed after dropping down a vibrato with a minnow head on the back.
Stayed for 2 hours, had 3 good marks come through but if you even moved a lure the schools of perch moved in and it got annoying pretty quick.
Had a buddy fishing on BBP, said he was marking.
So made the death march pulling my two sleds from BP, all the way to the tip of BBP in 110ft of water.
Within 5 minutes of setting up fish were constantly on the screen, I’ve never had a day where I marked so steady without long breaks. My friend and I missed so many strikes on the tipdowns, and fish half way up.
I lost one at the hole, then things started going right.
Nailed one on my customs tipdown, and reeled in a little guy who quickly was sent out the door.
Then meegs time, I’ve honestly put in so much time with this bait. And missed strikes time and time again I had no confidence with them.
Gave it ago today, with these nice tubes I grabbed at a local bait store.
Nailed the big guy on the meegs, and man it felt awesome to get the rhythm down and feel the bite. (I guess I always worked it way too fast).
Was super lucky that my buddy Tubbs drove me to the bottom of billy goat hill, my legs are burning from the one way journey/both ways would have been tough. Lol
MNR was out in full force, happy to see them. Had a quick check/chat and he was on to the next hut.
Weather was perfect today, couldn’t have asked for a better end to my WF season
