My conspiracy believing relative, would say this is a hoax, put on by the authorities as a practice drill. With the dual purpose of reminding people to shut things down for the season. In this world of fake news, who knows maybe he's right.
Idub, sometimes the bong inspires too much paranoia...

I can believe the huts went thru. The holes cut thru the centre allow the water on top to drain underneath the ice. The water flowing melts the ice from the inside out until the hole is big enough for the huts to go thru. Seen that happen two years ago in February. Then it got cold again and the huts sunk and refroze to the ice. It was a mess!

My wife works at Port Perry hospital and they were put on high alert. Staff rushing everywhere to secure warmers, blankets, etc. The authorities were lead to believe it involved up to 50 huts and/or vehicles with countless people... which, to say the least, caused a helluva scramble across many hospitals within the area.
A massive amount of resources were mobilized, for nothing.
If it was a an concerned citizen... I guess there's some leeway for being overly cautious this time of year. If a deliberate hoax? I hope the person(s) responsible are held accountable and have to cover the cost. I just can't imagine what one would have seen to have caused the logical conclusion there was such a massive emergency unfolding.
Thankfully there was no incident and everyone is safe.
Other than wasted resources the only real cost is now a bunch of us have to convince our significant others that it is actually safe to go out this weekend!
