Transport Kayak without roof rails

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anybody here has experience transporting their kayaks on their roofs without rails.
How secure is the kayak on there if I do that?
From what I've gathered, you can buy wide foam pads and then tie down.
My car also has one of those shark fin antennas. I'm worried that the kayak will be sitting on it if the foam pads aren't high enough to lift the kayak over the antenna.

Another solution could be an inflatable roof rack. Few brands sell them. I don't have experience with it but it looks like pretty cool idea.

For what it's worth $ wise ... give the foam blocks a chance I've used them for a canoe on a car many moons ago
