Took a vacation day to fish with my novice buddy. Friends since high school.
Called the always agreeable Taj and headed to PB.
Met another board member, from down London way, and his buddy and rode out together. Enjoyed meeting some enthusiastic anglers and good conversation.
Set up 15fowish of water. Bit of a community hole with about 50 quads and sleds in the area. It was interesting to observe as they basically set up in a long line, and that line shifted almost in unison all day as they chased the fish. Wish I'd been in my flip as opposed to the pop up, I'm sure I would have done better. Although, the other guys never moved and did notably better than my friend and I. Also, my buddy lost interest and, as the photo will show, he curled up in the sled and took a nap, full blown snoring to boot.
Twenty to thirty minute cycle, with a huge spike around 2pm when I landed four in a matter of a minute and a half. When they came though it was all keepers and jumbos. Predominantly caught on minnow tipped bugs. I did land a lovely oos 3# whitie, released immediately, which I initially thought was the provincial record perch. My buddy and I also each landed herring. I really love multispecies days.
We moved once. I set up and was working on my buddy's when he sticks his head in and says," dude, your rod", which was infinitely better than the last time we fished and when he returned from taking a leak said, "dude, you're on fire" and a new ice fishing coat was required. Seems a jumbo took a fancy to my suspended jigging Rap. Likely the biggest of the day was lost at the hole.
Kept a few.
It was an awesome day out.
Check with Taj, but he mentioned he'd likely be running the taxi this weekend.
The end is near, summer is coming.
