For a really good low budget unit, take a look at the Garmin Striker 4.

Agree with Paddy, Striker 4 is fantastic. Works well even in deep water.

I have a striker 4. This is My first year with it. Worked great for the hard water season. For the money it can’t be beat.

That's a great deal for the Helix 5 and the ice ducer. Been running the Helix 5 for a couple years now. Perfect Unit for the ice and boat.

If fishing over 75ft make sure it has at least 500 rms and 4000watts peak to peak

Garmin Striker 4 is either $130 or $150 at Costco right now. Not the portable pack (which is about $270 with battery and carry bag) but just the unit with a pedestal mount. It is only 200W rms. So if what Fish Guru said is correct, then it will not be good enough for fishing deeper than 75 FOW? So chkng, how deep was the "deep water" you said it was good in?
I may consider this unit as I don't usually fish deeper than 75 FOW but of course would like to have the option as KBay has some waters that are great than 100'. Given that I am still using a very old Eagle SeaFinder 320DF (which still works fine for me to at least 80'), any new unit should be much better (and colour too). LOL.
