I need help with steelhead

Lots and lots of info on here for steelheading if you go into the search option. Check it out

Most guys I've met on the river are more then happy to help out a newbie to the sport. Asking for a bit of help/advice can work wonders.

Some good info in the replies so far, for some reason the image isn't coming through for me. One thing I will disagree with is the comments saying you should use lighter line. I used to use light line but these days I don't carry anything less than 6lb with me as I have found the biggest difference it makes is the number of fish you lose. When fishing big water like Niagara I use 8-10lb and if I am fishing smaller water I will use 6lb. I might bring a spool of 4lb with me if I am fishing a small river with very low and gin clear water but for the most part I don't even bring it.

Xrap007 is actually using a 6lb leader as Drennan under rates all of their leader material. 4lb Drennan is .2mm while most other brands 6lb leader is .2mm. The 6lb drennan at .24mm is actually thicker than the 8lb I use.

One thing you can try is dew worms, I have found that with roe imitations the quality of your rig and the way you present it is a lot more important than if you are using worms or even a jig or a pink worm below your float.

As suggested by DSeibel get The Raven Float Fishing Guide bookelet, it has a lot of info. I got one myself. I either bought at Bass Pro or Sail not sure, but it is very helpful.

I just got the picture to work, the rig definitely needs some changes. The attached picture shows a general shotting pattern with the swivel and leader. The Raven Guide posted earlier is also a great resource that you can get in tackle shops or if you can find it there are PDF files of it online.

Aside from rigging, a trout that has no idea you`re there is infinitely easier to catch than a trout that `thinks `somethings up. On the bigger flows it doesn`t matter so much but if you`re out on any of the smaller tribs for opener, it`s worth keeping in mind.

Thank you everyone for all your help. Today I finally hooked into not one but 2 of these beautiful fish, I lost both but couldn't be happier. The first came on a mepps #2 in silver and the second was an off brand spoon from Dollarama in orange. The second fish was well over 10 lbs and I'm still shaking from it. Nice going. I've taken a lot of people out to get their first steelhead. I dont know why but they always seem to hook tanks. It usually doesn't end well and I bust their chops about starting with one a little more reasonably sized.

Finally got one in! So spoiled to say that my first steelhead was 10lbs and 31". Now i'm really hooked, can't wait to get out again! Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice, it's not impossible!
