WADERS

I am going to go out and buy a pair of chest waders this weekend.

what do you guys recommend/use, im willing to spend $200-400.

looking for a quality pair that wont leak after the first couple of uses.

If you go to one of the outdoor store web sites (Bass Pro, Cabella's, Sail) and look up chest waders they list several different kinds with a wide range of price and all come with descriptions and reviews

I have Simms and love them but I bought my father a set of boot on breathable Korkers. He loves the Korkers and so do I. I may even get a set my next pair as they have been so durable, comfortable and you never have to worry about wearing out your the soles of your boots as you can just get new soles. Also they were very reasonably priced. I bought the Korkers years ago at BPS but haven’t seen them there in a long time. I hope this helps.

Basspro has a few good pairs that you can buy and they will always take them back if there is a defect like a seam leak.

I have returned a pair that was over two years old and worn over 20 times with no problem what so ever. They wouldn’t do that for my buddies Simms. He had to deal directly with the vendor.

Don’t buy a pair with the boots attached.

Don’t buy thermal (Neoprene). You will hate your life in April/May and October. I usually fish from beginning of march until November and have never needed thermal.

Neoprene’s are great but usually only needed from December to February. or if you plan on spending hours standing waist deep in the river in these early or late months.

Cabelas breathable with zipper is just over $200. I have heard good things about them. If anything happens they have a good exchange policy. wanted to recommend G3 but its now over $600

My 2 cents worth as follows:

1. Don't get the old style - cheap plastic/rubber type - usually dark green. They are cold and in cold conditions they are stiff and hard to walk in.

2. My spouse loves the pair Santa left under the tree at Xmas - they are neoprene. He actually had them on yesterday - and he was warm while wearing them while working in the water on Lake Simcoe with ice floating near by. He mentioned they were flexible/somewhat stretchy so easy to move around in and most importantly easy to get on and off. BTW - if you buy neoprene hip waders check to make sure there is a repair kit which I understand is easy to use - at least that's what the salesperson told Santa's helper.

3. Personally - I have a problem with hip waders due to the fact they are sized based on shoe size and primarily men's shoe sizes. Due to the fact I have a small foot the legs on any hip waders I have ever worn are always too short and very difficult to walk in.

4. My feet generally freeze in hip waders early in the season and I found a pair of down filled boot liners which I highly recommend and I have no idea where I purchased the boot liners.

5. Hip waders generally go on sale a week or 2 prior to the May 24th weekend. If you are not in a hurry to pick up your new pair of waders I suggest you keep your eye out for sales over the next few weeks.

Sims all the way. Spend the money. It’s worth it. Warranty is amazing if they ever leak.

FYI guys..... if anyone is interested in the Neoprene waders, Canadian Tires has a sale coming next week and you can’t beat the price f $89 bucks.
