this is the French river supply post
I looked at pictures online showing "normal" water levels at the supply post and it is crazy the difference. I too hope the damage is not too extensive to this property and all properties affected.
I checked mail at my southern residence yesterday and had a nice letter from my insurance company. They were indicating that my southern residence was eligible for a water damage package covering things like sewer backup, water getting in underground, and water damage caused by high lakes and rivers. I thought isn't that nice of them. The southern residence is on the 8th floor of a condo building...... Not sure the insurance would do me much good other than rid me of some hard earned money. Oh, several weeks ago they also sent a notice indicating that my other property (the one on Lake Nipissing) was not eligible for this added coverage. Strange this........

My sister in-law is my insurance agent, when I questioned her about my policy regarding our cottage , this is how it was explained to me and I'm not knowledgeable on insurance. 1. If you purchase flood insurance or an addition for it you are covered( explains why my premiums seem high compared to others I talk to).I have full replacement insurance including flood damage, thank heavens. 2.If a state of emergency is called and you do or do not have coverage ,the province helps you out as long as it's your primary residence.Your secondary residence you better have some rainy day money set aside. 3. My insurance told me she was not to sell any flood policies( unless a new client) for about two months as the companies already had been privy to information that some flood damage was more than possible.Flood coverage is like life insurance where it is not effective immediately(some waiting period). Hope this helps

Insurance poor
thanks Warlock, well explained.
its amazing how they seem to manipulate the system and their clients, this is one of the reasons it pi$$es me off so much when I hear people bragging about what they effectively "stole" from the insurance company on a claim, referring to things that had nothing to do with a particular loss or things they've added in. its like a slap in the face as they tell you, like hahaha you paid for my tools that weren't even in my vehicle with your premiums, that stuff makes me sick and we all pay for it.

I am an electrical contractor and have seen too many things get overlooked by insurance companies, this is why I have been commuting 3 hours one way to babysit my place.I don't want to have the insurance fix my problems if I get flooded as half a$$ed is what they often push for.I don't buy stolen tools for a "steal" for one day they will be mine.I have seen vehicles get written off worth a grand ,and the recipients receive ten times that.I guess with insurance you need to question and read the fine print...although their hands don't shake taking your money for years.

I can't say for complete certainty but it looks like the water, in Lake Nipissing, has actually receded over the last day and a half. The amount of decline is almost indiscernible...but it's the first time this spring I'm willing to say the water in Nipissing might actually be declining. We've had large amounts of pine tree pollen deposited in the water this week...another annual rite of spring on Nipissing...it coats and stains almost everything it touches...but it leaves a very distinct, almost permanent, water line marker on everything it adheres to. The high point of that pollen line is now above the current water level today (plus the eye test of the lakes water level on my dock, confirms the same). Winds have been calm in my area of the lake (South shore) for the better part of 2 days now, so the wind driven water push has subsided since the strong winds earlier this week. The ditches and flooded low areas, holding water, also look down this morning...as are the drainage culverts nearby. I think the continual water level creep in the lake is hopefully at an end...and cross our fingers, the lakes water level steadily declines from here. Nipissing is still badly flooded, damage wide spread and severe. Strong winds and accompanying wave action will continue to inflict more damage going forward...and further significant rainfall events or reductions in dam outflows could still stall or delay any continuous lake water level reduction. But...it looks very promising that we've reached the high water point...and are finally heading back down for the first time this spring. It's been a very long, trying and stressful year already for many property owners in Ontario and possibly more yet to come for those bordering Lake Ontario. We can only wish everyone affected...better days, weeks and months ahead.

Martin river area water is really high. I was up there for a week and the water level did come down a little.. Some resorts can't get boats out to some lakes as they can't get under some bridges..

The wind today is causing more damage out our way. Lots of stuff floating on by too. Seems to have calmed down a little currently. Yesterday there was a bunch of bass boats zipping all over the place. Idiots!

My guess would be the top 50 pike tournament folks. Apparently the show must go on despite the high water level. No concern whatsoever for local people. Sorry to sound harsh but one would think they would juggle the venue instead of destroying people's stuff.
