Banner year for tournament’s 30th anniversary
STURGEON FALLS – The Sturgeon Falls Rod and Gun Club’s 30th Anniversary Pike Tournament was a banner year for club’s biggest fundraiser, with more than $60,000 in prizes awarded.

Once again the club had to draw names to fill out the roster of 225 teams of two to take part in the tourney on Lake Nipissing, leaving from the Cache Bay boat launch.

The prize this year for the biggest fish taken during the tourney was $4,420.

First place in the tournament went to Marc O’Byrn of Chelmsford and Mark Peitre of Garson, who each won their own Kawasaki Mule side-by-side off-road vehicle. Second was awarded to Denis Paquette and Bob Masse of Verner, who each took home a 14-foot UltraCraft aluminum boat. Third went to father and son team Michel and Gilbert Lamarchhe of Warren. They each received a 16-foot square-sterned Sportspal canoe with accessories.

Club member Huguette Morin reports 847 pike were measured the day of the tournament, on May 26, and the biggest fish was 87 cm, or 34 inches long.
