Caught a decent smallie on Saturday in the morning in the weedbed adjacent to deeper water nearby. The fish grabbed my spinnerbait on the fall shortly after it hit the weater. He gave me a good fight and after a quick selfie I released him. Since the fish took a lure almost from the surface, despite the moderate south chop I decided to try a Whopper Plopper in a 130 size. It started to become hotter so I took off my hoodie and put on my long-sleeve yellow jersey.
In about 10 minutes and almost in the same spot I hooked another decent smb on a plopper. By looking at the fish I have no doubts that it was the same exact bass released 10 minutes ago. I released the fish again and fished the area for another 15 minutes but there were no more takes.
It’s not the first time happened to me to catch the same fish again but first time with the bass (happened with the pike).
It would be interesting to hear if you guys had similar experience of catching, releasing and catching again the same fish.

Yes. Happened to me in the Grand River. I caught a 2 lber right out of a deep pocket along the shoreline and I released him and watched it swim back into the hole. Next cast I caught another bass, exact same size. I am sure it was the same fish. It wasn't a very big pocket either. It was the same bait too. Lol.

I’m almost certain that’s two different fish. If you look at the pectoral fin, the first one has several black spots and the second doesn’t appear to have any there. Also, the markings along the back by the rear fin are different on each one. I’d say you just got a pair of nice, fat twins there.

I 2x that. The marks are different abit.
X 3 ...looks like two different fish...and nice ones at that!
It maybe just because the sun angle is a bit different therefore the colours look also a bit different, although it’s possible that those are two twins

Well, as a fisherman I was always interested in fish behavior and biology. Not only because it is a way to better fishing but it is also part of my passion. At the end it is very important to understand how long it takes for fish to recover after the stress of being hooked.

As I explained in my post, after catching the first one I took off my hoodie and T-shirt and put on my yellow jersey and buff as it was getting hotter. The time between the two catches was around 10 minutes. At the time, the second bass seemed to me pretty identical to the first one.
On several occasions I caught and released the same pike, having some unique scars on it's body.
I guess, if the fish is hungry it forgets very quickly what just happened and is ready to bite again in a few minutes.
