Went out this morning hoping to get into a few bass. Left the house at 530 and it was already 24 degrees outside. Had the yak in and was fishing by 630.bit of a slow start, tried my new favourite top water, the Berkley choppo, but no takers. Then cycled through some plastics, jigs and spinners and nothing.
Made my way to some reliable Lilly pads and threw a Frog on. Chucked it out and when it hit the pads I could see the wake of something big move about 5' away. I watched as it made its way to the frog and, slurp, down it went. Set the hook nice and tight and in a few minutes I landed my best kayak pike so far!!
Just shy of 9 lbs.
The rest of the day I spent crashing pads and pencil reeds with a combo of frogs and punch rigs. Only got one more bass for my troubles. Still a great morning, had a few loons get quite talkative about 50' away from me.
