Aug 9/19 kayaking (Kawartha Lakes), Muskie, bass, walleye

Got a chance to get out with the kayak this morning and part of the afternoon.

Forecast was calling for strong winds for most of the day, so decided to hit up a location that is a little smaller and more protected than my usual launch points. Paid off as the winds didn’t bother me at all, although I did get a bit wet in the early afternoon (short heavy rain, but I dried out quickly).

Morning started well - I had only fished this spot once before with limited success. Shortly after launching I caught 2 walleye.
Moved a bit further on and managed some largemouth bass - nothing huge, but entertaining. Also managed to land a decent Muskie.

Once again the chatterbait did most of the work today.

I have the same chatterbait.. I have had limited success with it to say the least..

What do you tip it with, what kind of trailer? If I may ask..

Yeah I started using it last year and had very limited success with it. But because I didn’t have any confidence in it I would only give it a few casts and move on to something else.

This year I committed to throwing it more and giving it an honest shot and my results so far have been good. Last two trips it has been my top producer in terms of numbers and the average size has been decent as well.

As for trailers the Yamamoto Zako are what many swear by. I have been favouring the zman razor shadz. You can see it in the Muskie pic - redbone colour. The benefit of these is that they are basically indestructible. Over the last couple of trips it has handled several Muskie, walleye and bass and I am still on the same trailer.

Thank you.. I did see the trailer but couldn't figure out what it was.. I agree.. I put it on for a few minutes and then switch back to my bread and butter spinnerbait... I will adjust my trailer and give it more confidence.. I do like its castability, it gets good distance..

Nice...I have just begun trying trying chatterbaits ....what is your favourite lake in your Yak? am new to it this year...has been great trying new spots.

Somewhat depends on the season.

While bass/muskie are open, if the weather and winds cooperate - I prefer to fish Sturgeon Lake.

yes..I am a bit cautious with the wind and conditions but have been enjoying Cty Rd 24 area
