A Lake Simcoe lake trout is on my bucket list.
My only experience with the lake was Cooks Bay 20 years ago.
Looking at my Navionics chart, Long Shoal stands out to me as a target area to troll with a downrigger.
Does a guy have a chance of stumbling across a trout in that area, not too far off shore?
Thanks

Drop the rigger at the dock and leave it there. Then go verticals big with your sonar. You will put way more fish in the boat. 👍🏻

Just use your trolling motor and set up over fish when you find them. Drop a big swim bait down to them and jig it 20-30’ above their heads. When you see the laker start to rise to your presentation reel away from the fish at a steady quick pace. The laker will catch and smash it. Many good videos on you tube. It’s the same as ice fishing and puts lots of number of Lakers in the boat on Simcoe.

I agree with disco.

It is key to have a trolling motor with spot lock and a fishfinder that allows you to see your bait drop down. Troll around until you mark a fish, hit spot lock, then drop the bait on the fish, drop it straight down, and steady retrieve up, if the fish doesnt immediately move, keep reeling. do not jerk the rod or stop moving, Lake trout are predatory fish and like the hunt, They like hitting moving baits. pm me if you want any advice.

I also agree with the vertical jigging but in reality he did ask where to troll.
Some guys out there still like to prove their equipment and catch fish while trolling.
