Temagami

Hey everyone hope all is well.

me and the gf are off this year to Temagami we are staying at finlayson provincial park which is right at the end of the east arm. Never fished temagami or even been to the area. We are planning on fishing Temagami in the east arm unless someone has any better ideas do the usual for bass and pike and then some trolling harnesses for walleye. Is it to pressured near the park?

Any advice for the area, places to eat, hikes, fishing opportunities would be appreciated

Temagami is primarily a lake trout fishery, with some good bass all around but don't expect monsters. Pike are hard to locate as well, it's just not a good habitat for them.

Wouldn't waste time on walleye unless you're experienced on the lake... they'll be in 30ft at this time of year. Good luck.

thanks for the tips and advice very much appreciated. I could bring my flasher and try jigging lakers i guess.

We just got back from 3 weeks at Finlayson. Our family have been camping there for over fourty years and I usually just fish the northeast arm. Lake Temagami is primarily known for it's lake trout fishery, however don't let that scare you away from fishing for other species. Smallmouth are very abundant in the lake and are easy to catch along most shorelines with sparp drop offs. Walleye are abundant as well but, as previously noted, they can be hard to find this time of year. Trolling with a bottom bouncer and worm harness in 25 - 30 ft of water can be productive eary in the morning or in the evening. We've had decent luck just jigging with a jig and worm or minnow along the edges of the many shoals in this lake. Be careful as most of the shoals off the main channel aren't marked but a lot of cottagers on the lake do put out jugs to mark them around their cottages. Bait is available at Gramps on Hwy 11 south of Temagami or the grocery store in town (beside the LCBO) sells worms and minnows. There are two chip stands in town as well as a restaurant and sub shop in the Petro Can. Temagami Shores resort also offer meals to the public. We love that area and as I said before have been camping at Finlayson Point for years. Hope you have a great experience while you're up there.
