Hey all! I was able to get out on Friday with a good friend of mine, Tyler. I was very happy to get out as I only fished once in July which is very unusual for me.

We were debating where to fish and Tyler decided we should try Lovesick Lake. I have never fished this lake before so I was very excited to try it.

We met up at 7am and began fishing right away. Literally 5 casts in, I got hit. Unfortunately, the Musky barely just got the back hook and with one head shake, she was gone but we both looked at each other and said this is a great start.

About an hour later, I seen some commotion in the water and threw my lure directly at it. After a few cranks, I got hit again and once again, this Musky was barely hooked. She stayed down for a while and behaved like she was bigger than she actually was. We got her netted and with another head shake, she was off in the net. Phew!! That was a close call. We measured her and she came in at 34 inches but was pretty thick and put up a nice fight.

We were only able to fish til 1pm si we had to make a decision whether to try Stony or Lower Buckhorn. We decided to go into Lower Buckhorn because Tyler wanted me to experience going through a lock. Of all my years fishing, I have never been through a lock. It was nice to see how it works and also to talk to the employees and the other boaters using the lock.

Once we got through, I switched up my technique and got hit again. But, the musky slammed my lure sideways and I was unable to get any hooks into it so I lost her.

Overall, it was a gorgeous day on the water. It was like glass and no wind at all which made for a very hot occasion.

Looking forward to getting out more this month and continue that chase for the elusive 50+incher.

Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend,

Mikey

Awesome report. Thanks.for sharing.
I stillnhavent made it out to lovesick but everytime I pass by it I want to fish it or throw it on the tournament trail.
Glad you had fun and atleast had something to show for it.

I've never been in a lock myself.
Does it cost any money?

Hey Fork, yes it does. I believe it's either 10 or 15 bucks each way but we didn't have to pay as my friend Tyler works for them.

I hope you get a chance to fish Lovesick. It's a picturesque lake . If you need directions for the launch, let me know.
